AQuA - Audio Quality Analyzer alternative for POLQA and ViSQOL

AQuA is a simple but powerful tool to provide perceptual voice quality
analysis.

Call quality is a determining factor for customer satisfaction with the selected service. AQuA – Audio Quality Analyzer alternative for POLQA and ViSQOL let’s you compare reference and test audios and receive a quality MOS score with a set of reports on reasons that causes sound quality degradation.

AQuA is a simple but powerful tool to provide perceptual voice quality estimation similarly to what POLQA and ViSQOL are doing. AQuA uses a human hearing model to analyze the reference signal and test to make an objective estimate on the listener’s opinion of the audio quality. With PVQA technology integrated in most recent version of AQuA one also receives information on audio impairments that influenced listener’s perception.

This is the easiest way to compare two audio files and evaluate voice quality between reference and test files. AQuA is perhaps the most flexible tool for end-to-end voice quality analysis on the market. This is available as command line utility or library (C++ or Python interface).

AQuA utilized by:
  •   Mobile operators
  •   Telecom service providers
  •  3G, 4G/LTE, 5G testing and measurement
AQuA suitable for:
  •   Mobile networks drive testing
  •   Unified communications call quality monitoring
  •   Player communications analysis in gaming
  •   IVR testing
  •   Load testing
AQuA’s definite advantages include:
  • AQuA is available as a server solution without platform restrictions.
  •   It is easy to implement and use to develop software products
  •  It is accessible in all Linux or Windows servers & systems(32 & 64-bit)
  •  It provides a perceptual estimation of audio quality and could be used on VoIP,
GSM, PSTN, ISDN, CDMA networks and their combinations.
  • It has configurable perceptual model (ask us what it means)
  • It works with audio shorter than 4 seconds and longer than 30 seconds
  • It works with audio in different languages
  • It works mono and stereo
  • It gives three types of reports besides a quality score (MOS) that indicate reasons for audio quality degradation

We encourage you to compare AQuA features and MOS scores with ITU-T P.863 POLQA and Google ViSQOL AQuA – Audio Quality Analyzer alternative for POLQA and ViSQOL.

What is Sevana AQuA?

AQuA is your means for quick, easy and inexpensive set up of end-to-end voice and audio quality testing.

AQuA enables accurate measurement of end-to-end voice quality providing the following features:
  • MOS score (according to P.800 standard)
  • Taking into account noise and packet loss
  • Measuring voice quality for any language
  • Capable of working with long and short audio
  • Audio synchronization in time and level domains
  • Considers loudness loss
  • Providing various signal related metrics reflecting reasons for audio quality loss
AQuA is a simple but powerful tool to provide perceptual voice quality testing and audio file quality comparison.

The human ear is a non-linear system, which produces an effect named masking. Masking occurs on hearing a message against a noisy background or masking sounds. AQuA perceptual model is based on research of four different scientists who discovered influence of different frequency bands (the so-called critical bands) to human perception.

The value of spectrum energy in frequency bands can be used for different purposes; one of which is the sound signal quality estimation. However, using only critical bands discovered by one scientist does not allow getting an estimation objective enough, since they show only one of the aspects of perception or speech production. AQuA can determine energy in various critical bands as well as in logarithmic and resonator bands, that allows taking into account more properties of hearing and speech processing.

MOS score according to P.800 – reliable objective
MOS scores from 1 to 5
Percentage of sound quality similarity between reference and test audio
Duration distortion
Delay or advancing of audio signal activity
Sound signal activity mistiming
Signal spectrum damages
Signal spectrum vibration
Unidirectional signal spectrum analysis: amplification or attenuation

Most affected signal spectrum: low, medium, high bands
Average pitch
Pitch deviation
Pitch frequencies distribution distortion
Quantization steps distribution distortion
Amplitude clipping level
RMS
Sound signal: Minimum Energy, Maximum Energy, Average Energy
Sound signal: Min. Sample, Max. Sample, Average Sample

Based on PVQA technology AQuA discovers impairments in test audio that influenced audio quality degradation and were not present in the reference.
